The other side of the coin is you don’t have to be a slate-call expert to get good results with it. It’s a worthy goal, though, because a slate call in the hands of a master can effectively produce every turkey sound except the gobble and the spit-and-drum, and I know one hunter who can even drag a passable gobble out of a slate. This takes practice, of course, and that brings us to one of the disadvantages of using a slate call: It’s fairly difficult to truly master.īecoming a sure-enough slate-call expert is a task that never really ends, and few hunters ever achieve expert status with slates. In addition, a hunter who’s proficient with a slate can get a wide variety of pitches and notes out of a single instrument by doing nothing more elaborate than varying the angle and pressure of the striker against the sounding surface. There’s even more sound range available with slates than with box calls, because of the wider variety of materials used for the striking surfaces in slates. The result of all this variety in materials, sizes and shapes is an almost infinite range of tones available to the turkey hunter who uses slate calls. And the strikers used with them are more varied yet. I have many pot calls this will be my go to call next season.Although turkey hunters almost always refer to this style of call as the “slate” call, the sounding surfaces are now being made not only of natural slate, but also copper, plexiglass, aluminum, acrylic, crystal, teflon, graphite and a dozen other exotic and esoteric materials. Received call at the end of season, didn' t have a chance to use in woods. Published by Ary L Miller on Apr 29th 2021 5 Great sounding call worth every penny.Sounds and looks great! Excellent customer service also. I have not used this in the field yet, but if it performs like I think it will, I would give it 5 stars. You can be soft, you can be loud and any where in between. Published by Mike Wilson on May 21st 2021 Thanks David and Ashley for your superb work and design !! DH calls are absolutely the best on the market. Only other call I use is a Primos true double. Guess I' ve killed or called in for others over 300 turkeys. I end up giving then my call so by the end of the season I have no calls left. I' ve been using DH Turkey calls for over 20 years and it seems like I need to order new ones each year because every time I take a friend hunting they ask me what kind of call do you use. Published by Lou Haubner, Florida on Jun 29th 2021 So I guess what I am saying is not only do David’s calls look amazing they sound just as good as they look and are easy to use. Over 20 years of self taught successful public land hunting, doing turkey hunting classes and seminars for my regions NWTF I have a little myself, but not as much as others. We all can brag about how much experience we all have myself included. However if you want a call that has beautiful craftsmanship and quality that kills (see what I did there lol) look no further. Truth is any half way decent call can help you kill a Gobbler if it is used the right way at the right time. Published by JEFF SAYRE aka Turkey Assassin on Sep 11th 2021

I’m still getting used to it but it’ll stay in my vest regardless. Seems a little inconsistent in sound on yelps. Love it! Sounds good first weekend with it had them turkey' s gobbling to it. Published by Jason Walker on Apr 29th 2022 ( Used my son pot call, so I ordered the same one) Published by Scott A Meister on May 15th 2022Ĭalled three birds into my decoy from over a half mile away. Of course all David’s calls are top notch and absolute pure turkey!!! Without a doubt one of the best green slates I’ve ran!!! Very easy call to run and just breaks over easy.
